Marina Frenk, born 1986 in Chisinau (Moldova), emigrated to Germany in 1993. She studied acting at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. Afterwards she was a permanent ensemble member at various theatres, such as the Schauspielhaus Bochum, Schauspiel Leipzig, Schauspiel Köln and Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. In 2009 she was awarded the Bochum Theatre Prize in the category young actress. Since 2015 she has been a freelance actress, musician, radio play speaker and author. With her self-written theatre text Fuck you Moldova, which she wrote at the Gorki Theater, she performed at various festivals. Her self-played, written, staged and set to music performance Valeska Gert - The Animal Show was invited to the Radikal Jung Regie Festival in Munich in 2018. She was singer of the folk jazz band Kapelsky for many years and plays with the electro-noise band Baba Dunyah as well as with Daniel Kahn and Yuriy Gurzhy as The Disorientalists. She played the leading role in the film Totem, which was invited to the 2010 Venice Film Festival. Her self-written radio play Jenseits der Kastanien, in which she also set Paul Celan's poems to music, won the European Civis Media Prize Radio in 2017. In 2016 she received the Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden together with Sybille Berg for Und jetzt die Welt. In January 2020 her debut novel Ewig her und gar nicht wahr will be published by Wagenbach Verlag Berlin. She receives an author's grant for culture and Europe from the Berlin Senate 2020.  She lives in Berlin with her son. At the Schauspielhaus Bochum she can be seen in Johan Simon's production Iwanow in the 2019/20 season.
