Steven van Watermeulen, born 1968 in Eelko, Belgium, studied at the Conservatory of Antwerp and then became a member of the ensemble of Het Zuidelijk Toneel under the direction of Ivo van Hove. He was then a member of Ro Theater and since 2005 of NTGent. He has worked with directors such as Guy Cassiers, Johan Simons, Ivo van Hove, Pierre Audi, Alize Zandwijk, Theu Boermans, Christoph Marthaler and Dora van der Groen. In 2001 he won a "Louis d'Or" for his role in De Wespenfabriek at the Ro Theater. Since the 2017/18 season he has been a member of the Toneelgroep Amsterdam. Van Watermeulen also works as a director, exhibition curator and author. Since 2014 he has been the artistic director of the director's course at the Amsterdam Art Academy.
