Manuela Infante, born in Santiago de Chile in 1980, completed her bachelor's degree in art at the Universidad de Chile and her master's degree in cultural analysis at the University of Amsterdam. She works as a playwright, director, screenwriter and musician. Between 2002 and 2016, she wrote and produced numerous projects in collaboration with her company Teatro de Chile, which she also directed. Infante's work has toured the USA, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Singapore, Korea and Japan. She has produced her own works at HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, for the VIE Scena Contemporanea Festival in Modena (Italy), the Watermill Center in New York, the Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires, the Festival Internacional Santiago a Mil and TheaterWorks in Singapore. In 2015, Manuela Infante was the first woman to be appointed director of the Muestra Nacional de Dramaturgia (National Festival of Dramaturgy) in Chile. In 2019, she was the first Chilean theatre maker to be invited to the 2019 Venice Theatre Biennale with her plays Estado Vegetal and Realismo. In the same year, she won the First Prize of the Stückemarkt at the Berlin Theatertreffen, awarded by Schauspielhaus Bochum as a partner theatre. This resulted in the commissioned work Noise. Das Rauschen der Menge in Bochum in the 2020/21 season. Since then, she has worked at several German-speaking theatres and festivals such as Theater Basel, Volkstheater Wien and Theaterformen in Hanover.
