The turn of the year in Schauspielhaus Bochum
Welcome to Schauspielhaus Bochum!
Located in the western part of Germany in the city of Bochum, Schauspielhaus Bochum for more than one hundred years has been one of the leading places for contemporary theatre and performing arts in the German speaking theatre scene.
Since 2018, Johan Simons is artistic director. He and the team of Schauspielhaus Bochum envision this place as a city theatre for the 21st century where artists from different nations and cultures and different disciplines can find a creative home. The core of the theatre is its permanent acting ensemble – one that brings cultural influences from different nations in Europe and around the world with it. Each season, Schauspielhaus Bochum produces various new performances of drama, dance and interdisciplinary art. For its outstanding programme, Schauspielhaus Bochum has been awarded 2022’s “Theatre of the Year” in the region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Our shows are mainly in German, but we offer English surtitles for most of our performances. Watch out for the lable “en”. Under the rubric of 'tickets' you’ll find recommendations where to have the best view on the surtitle screen.
Schauspielhaus Bochum features four venues: Schauspielhaus (up to 800 seats), Kammerspiele (400 seats), the Oval Office (100 seats), and within a distance of 2 kilometres the Theaterrevier, a special venue for youth theatre.
On our website you’ll find details in English on all of our own productions, on our acting ensemble and on the artists working at Schauspielhaus Bochum as well as general information on the profile and history of Schauspielhaus Bochum and helpful information about the venues, how to get there and how to purchase tickets.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you at Schauspielhaus Bochum – and wish you an inspiring experience in our theatre!
