Barbara Fuchs is regarded as a pioneer of “dance for the very young,” which she has been creating since 2009. Under her label tanzfuchs PRODUKTION, founded in 2003, she has created more than 40 productions for adults and children. Guest directing has taken her to venues including the Junge Staatstheater Karlsruhe, COMEDIA Theater Cologne, tjg. theater junge generation Dresden, Theater Konstanz, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Junges Schauspiel Düsseldorf and Junges Nationaltheater Mannheim. Her company has toured to 15 countries, among them Finland, Norway, Italy, Poland, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Japan. Her works have received multiple nominations and awards (including the Cologne Dance-Theatre and Children’s and Youth Theatre Prize, Biennale tanz nrw, WestWind – Theatertreffen NRW, first prize and audience award at the SzólóDuo Festival in Budapest, Theaterzwang).
Fuchs understands dance as a sensuous interplay of listening, seeing and movement. Materials, sounds, space, and the body are central – aiming to create aesthetic experiences for children and their adult companions. At the same time, tanzfuchs pursues an approach that, through artistic reflection of diverse body images and movement concepts, presents a range of social narratives and embraces diversity as a positive, enriching perspective.
