Bernadette Corstens began designing women's and men's clothing in her own studio at the end of the 1970s. Through these designs she moved into the film world. After a few years of assisting she worked from 1985 as a costume designer for national and international film productions, including Vincent Bal, Ena Sendijarevic, Guido van Driel, Rolf de Heer, Paul Cox and Aleksander Sokurov. From the mid-1990s, her work shifted from film to theatre and opera. She worked for productions by De Warme Winkel, NTGent, Toneelschuur, Oostpool, OT, Toneelmakerij, Theater Rotterdam and initiatives by independent producers such as Marlies Heuer and Michael Gieler.
