Meriam Abbas, born 1970 in Baghdad (Iraq), studied acting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (1991 – 1994) and worked as a freelance actress at the Schauspielhaus Vienna, the Volkstheater Vienna, the Schauspielhaus Zurich, the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Schauspielhaus Cologne and Düsseldorf, the Hans Otto Theater Potsdam and the Burgtheater Vienna, the Schauspielhaus Hannover as well as the Renaissance Theater and the Rambazamba Theater in Berlin. For her acting she was awarded the Karl Skraup Nachwuchspreis in 1998 and the Förderpreis der Stadt Wien, the Kainz Medaille, (today: Nestroy Prize) in 1999. She also regularly appears in front of the camera for film and television productions, most recently in 2019 in the international production Another Day In Baghdad directed by the Iraqi/English director Maysoon Al Pachachi. In addition, Meriam Abbas works as an actress and narrator in the radio and feature sector, among others for WDR, Deutschlandradio, rbb, NDR and ORF. At Schauspielhaus Bochum she can be seen in Lehrer*innen in the 2018/2019 season.
