Anna van Leen studied stage and costume design, film and exhibition architecture at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, stage and costume design at the Berlin-Weißensee Academy of Art, and scenography, art history and media theory at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, graduating with honours.
Since 2010, she has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer at the Munich Kammerspiele, the Staatsschauspiel Hannover, the Semperoper Dresden, the Schauspiel Köln, the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Munich Volkstheater and the Staatsschauspiel Dresden with directors Sapir Heller, Malte C. Lachmann, Sylvia Sobottka, David Schalko and Bastian Kraft.
Her work has received numerous awards, including the audience award at the “Radikal jung” festival for Felix Krull and the critics' award for Amsterdam, as well as the Nachspielpreis at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt for Das hässliche Universum.
