Walter Bart, born in Rotterdam in 1978, completed his acting training at the Toneelacademie Maastricht (NL) in 2001. In the same year, he founded the Wunderbaum collective together with Maartje Remmers, Wine Dierickx, Marleen Scholten and Matijs Jansen (and later stage designer Maarten van Otterdijk), which has created more than 50 productions over the past 22 years. Wunderbaum was associated with Hollandia, Johan Simons' group, and with NTGent before the collective joined forces with Theater Rotterdam in 2010. Theater Rotterdam remains the base of the Wunderbaum theatre collective to this day. Wunderbaum has been awarded the Mary Dresselhuys Award and the VSCD Proscenium Award for its work and received the Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014. From 2018 to 2022, Wunderbaum was the artistic director of the Theaterhaus Jena. Its production Die Hundekot-Attacke (The Dog Shit Attack) at the Theaterhaus Jena has been invited to the Theatertreffen 2024.
