Lucia Bihler, born in Munich in 1988, studied theatre directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and completed a master's semester in choreography with Wanda Golonka. During her studies, Bihler founded the independent company gold&hiebe and realised projects at the bat Studiotheater, the Ballhaus Ost and the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. This was followed by productions at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen, Theater Lübeck, Schauspiel Leipzig, Staatstheater Oldenburg, Schauspiel Hannover, Staatstheater Mainz and Schauspielhaus Wien. Among other things, she created her adaptation of Robert Menasse's novel Die Hauptstadt (The Capital) there in 2018, which earned her an invitation to the Radikal jung Festival at the Münchner Volkstheater. In the 2019/20 season, she directed Hedda Gabler at the Münchner Volkstheater and was invited to the Radikal jung Festival the following year with this production.

From 2019 to 2021, Lucia Bihler is part of the artistic direction of the Volksbühne Berlin and works as a resident director. There, she stages Final Fantasy in 2019, followed by the tragedy rewriting Iphigenie Traurig und geil im Trauerland (Iphigenia Sad and Horny in the Land of Mourning) for the opening of the 2020/21 season. She also directs at the Burgtheater in Vienna and at Schauspiel Köln. She opened the 2023/24 season at the Münchner Volkstheater with her production of Jean Genet's Die Zofen. In 2024/25, she will also take over the opening production with The Lobster, based on the film by Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou.
