Genevieve “Evie” O’Driscoll is a versatile bassist active in both the UK and German jazz scenes. She initially studied cello at Goldsmiths College, University of London, where she discovered her passion for jazz and improvisation through working with jazz violinist Julian Ferraretto. Through the Tomorrow’s Warriors program and her mentor, British bassist Gary Crosby, she transitioned to double bass and went on to study jazz bass at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
In late 2019, she moved to Germany to continue her studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts, where she received the Deutschlandstipendium and a merit scholarship. Today, she is an in-demand musician across North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond. Alongside her work as a sidewoman, she leads the chordless quintet New Monastery, dedicated to exploring and reinterpreting the music of Andrew Hill.
She has performed at festivals such as Cheltenham Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival and Stadtgarten Winter Jazz, and appeared in theater productions at Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Schlosspark Theater Berlin, Kammertheater Karlsruhe, Musiktheater im Revier, The Old Vic and The Lyric Theatre in London. In addition to her performance work, she teaches at the Städtische Musikschule Herne.
