Tina Lanik, born in 1974 in Paderborn, is a theatre director. She initially studied Political Science at the University of Vienna and began her theatre career as an assistant director at Schauspielhaus Wien and with Luc Bondy at Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne. In 1999, she made her directorial debut with Biljana Srbljanović’s Belgrade Trilogy at Rabenhof Theater in Vienna. Since then, she has directed at theatres including Residenztheater Munich, Burgtheater Vienna, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Schauspielhaus Zürich and Schauspielhaus Bochum. In 2003, she received the Förderpreis für Regie for her production of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Tropfen auf heiße Steine at Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel and was named Emerging Director of the Year by Theater heute in the same year. Her artistic work is characterised by contemporary drama, socio-political themes and psychological studies of relationships, with a particular interest in female perspectives and feminist narratives. Since 2010, she has regularly taught directing and acting as a guest lecturer, including at the August Everding Theatre Academy and Mozarteum Salzburg. Tina Lanik previously directed at Schauspielhaus Bochum during Elmar Goerden’s artistic directorship. In the 2026/2027 season, she returns to Schauspielhaus Bochum to direct Svenja Viola Bungarten’s Der Liebling.
