Malte Jelden, born in 1971 in Erlangen, studied German and history in Tübingen. Since 1997 he has been working as a freelance director. In 2003 he founded Drama Köln together with Oliver Krietsch-Matzura and developed various festival formats in urban space. From 2007 to 2013 Malte Jelden was dramaturg at the Münchner Kammerspiele. The focus of the work in Munich was the development and realization of projects in the social and political context of the city. Together with Johan Simons and Björn Bicker, among others, they developed the urban space project Urban Prayers in 2013, which continued at the Ruhrtriennale in 2016 with Urban Prayers Ruhr. In 2013 he staged the Horvàth-Ellis-Collage Das war auf einer Lichtung da sie zum ersten Mal Geld dafür nahm with the third year of the Otto Falckenberg Schule; the performance was awarded the prize for best production at the Theatertreffen der Schauspielschulen and received the Günther-Rühle-Preis in 2014; most recently he conceived projects at the Schauspiel Stuttgart and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. At Theater Neumarkt in Zurich he directed Urban Prayers Zurich. Lehrer*innen (WT) in the 2018/2019 season is his first production at Schauspielhaus Bochum.
