Dasniya Sommer was raised in Berlin in the eighties and began as classically trained Ballerina working with the Berlin Staatsballett. She started modelling with 17 and went to New York for broader dance training. Since 2008 she develops her own choreographies and collaborations with choreographers and groups such as Helena Waldmann, Romeo Castellucci, Angela Schubot, Florentina Holzinger, das Helmi and Monstertruck. She also advises in movie and art projects. She is based at Uferhallen Kulturwerkstatt, and founded Haus Sommer in 2016, her own studio where she is doing research with various artists on all kind of physical expressions. In her practice she combines ballet, contemporary dance, butoh, shibari, puppet play, masks, photo sessions, handicaps into new bodily narratives. She is also teaching regularly in her own studio and abroad and advising choreographers and directors. In the 2019/20 season Dasniya Sommer can be seen on stage in Tobias Staabˋs production After Work.
