Valerie Hirschmann, born 1985 in Weißenburg, completed her training as a tailor at Elise Topell Couture in 2010 and has been working as a freelance costume designer for spoken and musical theatre since 2014. She was engaged as a costume design assistant at the Staatstheater Mainz, where she has already created her first own works, including the productions of the then artistic director Matthias Fontheim Nora (2013) and Lady in the Dark (2014). Their collaboration continued with, among others, Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach at the Staatstheater Augsburg (2014). She also worked with the directors Georg Schütky, Götz Hellriegel and Kai Anne Schuhmacher, with whom she realised the world-award winning play The Rape of Lucretia (2016) at the Cologne Opera. She has worked with director and actress Martina Eitner-Acheampong since 2016, most recently for Der Wildschütz (2019) at the Detmold Landestheater. Their joint work Drei Mal Leben in the 2020/2021 season is Valerie Hirschmann's first production at Schauspiel Bochum.
