Torsten Knoll, born 1981 in Balingen, studied jazz piano and singing at the Mainz School of Music from 2004 to 2007 and film music composition at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg from 2007 to 2010. Since 2005 he has worked as a theatre composer at various theatres such as Residenztheater München, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, theatre Magdeburg or the theatre Konstanz, where he also was a guest for two seasons with his solo evening Das schwarze Piano. He worked with directors such as Andrzej Woron, Johanna Schall, Martina Eitner-Acheampong and Aureliusz Smigiel. In May 2019 his first musical performance Wassa Schelesnowa had its premiere at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen. From 2015 to 2018 Torsten Knoll was also musical director of the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg. In the 2020/2021 season he is responsible for the music in Martina Eitner-Acheampong's production Drei Mal Leben at Schauspielhaus Bochum.
