Karin Drechsel studied acting and directing at the Otto-Falkenberg School in Munich. After her engagement at Staatstheater Hannover and productions at the Modern Theater in Munich, she went to Thalia Theater in Hamburg as assistant director. There she worked with Jürgen Gosch, Axel Manthey and Robert Wilson, among others. Since 1991 she has worked as a freelance director at German theatres such as Schauspiel Frankfurt, Theater Erlangen, Stadttheater Ulm or Theater für Niedersachsen Hildesheim. Since 1998 she has taught acting and directing at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg as well as at the Folkwang Universität der Künste. At Schauspielhaus Bochum she will stage Dogville in the 2020/2021 season with the acting students of the 4th year of the Folkwang University of the Arts.
