
Lucien Strauch studied literature, philosophy, and art history in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main and worked as a guest assistant at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, the Opéra National de Lyon, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspiel Frankfurt, and the Vienna Burgtheater, collaborating with directors such as Karin Henkel, Barrie Kosky, and René Pollesch. He appeared in Pollesch's Service / No Service and created translations and surtitles for Frank Castorf's Kabale der Scheinheiligen and FAUST.
Since 2017, he has worked as a freelance dramaturg at institutions such as La Monnaie / De Munt in Brussels, Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne, Wiener Festwochen, and the Berliner Ensemble. He maintains an ongoing collaboration with director David Marton. In 2022, he was the festival dramaturg for the Berliner Theatertreffen and co-editor of the book WIR SEHEN UNS. Theatertreffen 2012 – 2022.
From 2023 to 2025, Lucien Strauch was a cross-disciplinary dramaturg at Theater Aachen, where he collaborated on productions with Ran Chai Bar-zvi, Wilke Weermann, Jan Koslowski & Nele Stuhler, Jakab Tarnóczi, Schorsch Kamerun, Alina Fluck, and Blanka Rádóczy. With fünf minuten stille by Leo Meier, he made his directorial debut at Theater Aachen in 2025. At the Philharmonie Berlin, he staged Yevgeniy Breyger's Frieden ohne Krieg as a musical-scenic reading.
Since the 2025/2026 season, he has been a dramaturg at Schauspielhaus Bochum and will also take over the leadership of the directing talent program WORX at the Berliner Ensemble in fall/winter 2025.
Lucien Strauch was a fellow of the Dramaturgische Gesellschaft and has served multiple times as a jury member for the ITI Prize of the International Theater Institute, German Center.
