Axel Wandtke, born 1959 in Dresden, studied acting at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch Berlin. First engagements took place at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar and at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. From 1990 to 1996 he was a permanent member of the Deutsches Theater Berlin. He has performed at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Staatstheater Cottbus, Landestheater Neustrelitz, Neues Theater Senftenberg, the Staatsoper Berlin and the Berliner Ensemble. From 2000 he performed again at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz where he was a permanent member of the ensemble from 2004 to 2017 and worked with directors such as Jürgen Kuttner, Milan Peschel, Thomas Bischoff, Dimiter Gotscheff, Jonathan Meese, Caroline Mylord, Gero Troike and Sebastian Klink. Here he also created his own directorial works. Since 2011 he has been collaborating with Herbert Fritsch on his productions Die (s)panische Fliege, Murmel Murmel, Frau Luna, Ohne Titel Nr. 1, der die mann und Pfusch. He can also be seen in international film productions, television films and series. Since the 2017/18 season he has been a member of the Schaubühne ensemble. At the Schauspielhaus Bochum he can be seen in the 2018/19 season in Murmel Murmel by Herbert Fritsch.
