Saara Turunen, born 1981 in Joensuu (Finland), studied at the Helsinki Theatre Academy and works as a director and author both in Helsinki and internationally. Her works deal with themes such as femininity, identity, social norms and art, being both playful and provocative, often linked to the world of fairy tales and pop culture. In Germany, among others, she has been invited to the International Forum of the Berlin Theatertreffen and the Forum of Young European Playwrights at the Festival Neue Stücke aus Europa in Wiesbaden. Her novels and plays have been translated into 15 languages and awarded with many important prices, such as Helsingin Sanomat Literature Prize, the Finland Prize, the Thalia Award and the Lea Award.
