Declan Hurley, born in Dublin in 1986, studied Fine Art Media at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. During his bachelor diploma he began working as a video artist in theatre. Based in Berlin since 2011, he has worked freelance in venues such as Junges Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Staatstheater Hannover, National Theater Mannheim, Theater Strahl Berlin, and FFT Düsseldorf. He works closely with director Wera Mahne. The two are part of the performance group Leute wie die. The group is made up of hearing and deaf people and together they explore the artistic possibilities of multilingual theatre. They have been invited twice to Westwind Festival. Hurley is also an experienced furniture maker and this has led him in the direction of stage design. His process often involves not only designing, but building stage sets. In 2019, his short film Autonomat, which he co-directed with Anne Fidler, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Weg vom Fenster is his first production at Theaterrevier.
