88888 is the duo of Karel Burssens, born in 1984, and Jeroen Verrecht, born in 1984, who both studied Architecture in Leuven, Belgium. They share a general interest in spatial conditions and establish this in a practice of installation art, scenography, architecture and photography. They work on several international projects in the worlds of museums, fashion, contemporary dance and architecture, both commissioned and self-initiated. 88888 searches consciously and unconsciously for assignments within the spacial context. Their artistic research consists of measuring the relevance of form, typology, physicality and materiality, but evenso the void, the absence of intervention within this context. In the 2018/19 season Karel Burssens and Jeroen Verrecht / 88888 are realizing the stage design for Eleanor Bauer’s production New Joy at Schauspielhaus Bochum.
