Will-Jan Pielage first studied school music and piano at the Alkmaar Conservatory, before he later taught there. After his first work as a lighting technician, he quickly switched to sound engineering because of his musical background. From 1996 he worked for Hollandia/ZTHollandia, since then repeatedly working with Johan Simons. Further works at NTGent, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Münchner Kammerspiele and the Nationaltheater Weimar. From 2014 to 2018 he is Technical Director of the Ruhrtriennale. Since 2018 he is technical director at Schauspielhaus Bochum.
