Leonie Mevissen, born in 1995, studied literature and linguistics at Ruhr University Bochum. Within the fields of English and American Studies and German Studies, she specialised in the philosophy of language, media theory and Shakespeare studies. During her studies, she organised theatre projects with unaccompanied minor refugees and founded the Ruhr Shakespeare Company. Her multilingual production of Öthello was staged in 2019 at the German Shakespeare Society in Weimar. At the same time, she worked on research projects focusing on digitalisation in foreign language teaching. She has been working at the Schauspielhaus Bochum since 2019, initially in the surtitling and translation department. Following a translation project on Ding Together by Lotte van den Berg, she undertook a directing internship on Iwanow by Johan Simons and worked as a guest assistant on Baroque by Lies Pauwels. Since the 2024/25 season, she has been a permanent assistant director at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, where she works on play development with, among others, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, De Warme Winkel and directors such as Claudia Bossard and Johan Simons.
