The people at the reading might be expecting Günter Grass, but that doesn't matter. In that case, I'll just grit my teeth and read Homo Faber.

This was one of more than 1,000 postcards that Jurek Becker wrote from the mid-1950s onward. Christine Becker has now collected 400 of them in Am Strand von Bochum ist allerhand los [“The Beach in Bochum is Teeming”]. These enchanting short texts reveal Jurek Becker’s wit, charm and the joy he took in telling stories. Today, Christine Becker commemorates Becker, the author of “Jacob the Liar” and the television series “Liebling Kreuzberg”, as a person and an artist. Nina Kunzendorf and Ulrich Matthesread some of his nicest texts. And postcards. Host: Knut Elstermann
