Text
Director Martin Laberenz, born in Finland, was an assistant director in Bochum before moving to the periphery (Hamburg, Vienna, Basel, etc.) and now finally returning to the most beautiful theatre in the world. We spoke to him about being young. Let's say: being 22.
What should you definitely not do at 22?
At 22, you should do everything – no, some things you definitely shouldn't. But what? Staple your index fingers together, for example. It's very difficult to get the wire out again with your teeth.
What would you like to know about 22-year-olds?
How they know so early on which path is the most efficient. And whether you can get rid of that again.
What book should you read at 22? Which ones should you definitely avoid?
You should never avoid reading a book. At 22, I came across Céline's Journey to the End of the Night and wanted to write a paper about it. I never got around to it because someone broke into my shared flat through the window to steal my laptop. The whole room was covered in glitter, which was pretty trendy at the time, but I couldn't explain to the police where it came from.
How long are you actually young?
I think you're old when you start listening to the music you listened to when you were young again. Or when you start skateboarding again.
