Text
An imaginative play about emotions of all kinds.
Welcome to the Grand Hotel of Feelings. Here, all kinds of emotions come and go. Anger, for example, is far too loud and needs plenty of space to let off steam. Putting anger in a single room that’s too small is not a good idea at all. Sadness speaks in a quiet voice and sometimes floods the bathroom. Gratitude likes to wander about outside; you never know when it will come and sit by your side. Emotions come in all colours, sizes and shapes. Some are huge, some are tiny. Some are brightly coloured, some are grey. Some are angular, some are round. Some are even invisible and you can only smell or feel them.
At the Grand Hotel of Feelings, there are low-maintenance guests. They are pleasant and entertaining. They are called Confidence, Cosiness or Joy. Others are quite demanding and need a great deal of attention. If they don’t feel taken seriously, things can get a bit uncomfortable or complicated – but here at the Grand Hotel, no one is turned away! There’s a place here for every emotion! Every emotion can take centre stage here. Every emotion is given enough space to express itself. Well, do you actually know which emotion you’re feeling right now? Where in your body do you feel it? What colour is it? And what about those very, very small feelings that usually go unnoticed and only slowly come to the surface? Perhaps they even play the leading role here?
Loosely based on the picture book of the same name by Lidia Branković, which has been translated into over 25 languages, director Maria Trautmann explores all kinds of emotions in an imaginative way, with plenty of music and movement: how to deal with them, how to learn from them, and how important it can be to welcome them warmly despite all resistance.
