Text
From Castor and Pollux to the Olsen twins to Patty and Selma: twins have fascinated humanity since time immemorial. Shakespeare's plays alone feature three pairs of twins. In ancient times, a god was usually involved: Hercules' twin brother Iphicles was the son of a mortal, while the demigod called none other than Zeus his father. In other cultures, they were considered a sign of misfortune and had to be eliminated along with their mother. Whether a god or a demon was involved, it never seemed ‘normal’ to people. And even today, they are still fascinated by the special unity that twins form. Does individual identity end with genetic copying? And what does it mean to be together from the first moment of existence?
After Der Hamiltonkomplex, Baroque and Werther (Love & Death), the Belgian director returns to the Schauspielhaus Bochum. In her productions, she collages texts, images and emotional soundtracks and brings together non-professional performers and actors. This time, she takes a look at the cosmos surrounding twins.
