Text
A classic children’s book on the big stage. And the question: what does it actually mean to be a ‘good witch’?
The Little Witch is 127 years old. “Far too young to be allowed to dance on Blocksberg!” say the big witches. But the Little Witch wants nothing more, and so decides to ride her broomstick to Walpurgis Night. When she is caught, the wicked witch Rumpumpel takes away her beloved broomstick as punishment. And she has to spend a whole year memorising all the spells from the Great Book of Witches and promise to become a ‘good witch’. Then next year – perhaps – she’ll be allowed to dance on Blocksberg with the big witches.
With her clever companion, the raven Abraxas, she sets about the arduous task of learning the great arts of witchcraft day after day. In the process, she often goes a bit overboard with her witchcraft for a good cause and causes quite a stir. Daring and creative as the little witch is, she and Abraxas slowly discover what it actually means to be a ‘good witch’.
Paulina Neukampf adapts this classic children’s book into a family-friendly production for the festive season (and beyond): a wild ride through a magical world in which the little witch seeks her own path – curious, brave and full of determination. She doesn’t simply follow established rules, but questions them and decides for herself what is right. Thus, her story becomes a tale of independence, courage and the joy of finding one’s own voice.
